The Calendar Hung Itself

Back to working on the A-Z for the final few. Got a few ideas of the directions I want to take regarding some of the pieces so it’s just now down to doing it and making them.

Work in Progress:

Initial design. Decided to make a 4 piece linked poster with sayings about green for G as one of the final pieces, wanted each poster to be linked with one another in some way as well as being able to be viewed as individual pieces.

Plan on making a lazer cut piece of my line illustration and create two other piece to go along with it.

Hide and Seek

Ico book project is done for the moment and books are off to print so should get two books back soon.

Front Cover and the content.

The Garbage Pail Kid Gang Bang

Working on the Ico Project, doing another book as a final product and I chose and article by The Lafontaines blogging about why Biffy Clyro should win an award at the Brit awards.

Looking at several designers and film posters I decided I wanted to do the book in the style of the ‘True Grit’ film posters. As well as other films that follow that format with their typography.

Some works in progress thus far:

Angels of Clarity

Finished all the A-Z work, overall I just like 5 or so if that much. Better news, from doing the line portraits, I’ve been asked to do another 5 as a collaboration with my brother who’s a freelance illustrator. So there goes my winter holiday-ish. At least it gets me my final days I missed of my work exp =).

Polaroid’s Of Polar Bears

Q- quote. One of my favourite Shakespearean quotes “All that glisters is not gold” translated to suit today’s audience.

B- Bold. Experimenting with stencils on post-it notes and using bold background colors to contrast.

C- Cliche. Need to work on Hierarchy.

I-Illustration. Need to reprint onto other materials. But otherwise complete.

A- Alphabet. Mini post-it notes made into a flip book with the alphabet. Used transfers for text.

Double Vision

So Updating this so far is failing so time for some mega postage to start happening.

10/26 of the A-Zs are complete or idealised.

Being the genius I am I made a piece for my elective and happened to save over it so now the fun task of redoing it is added to my list of stuff to do along with my new project for my elective.

Felt Through A Phone Line

Progress on the letter I. Chose Illustration for the word. After the last tutorial I’ve decided to set myself time limits on some which I clearly won’t be carrying forward for certain reasons.

Totally need to start my elective work but I can’t stop working on this piece.

Blindfolds Aside

My amazing yet deeply retarded best friend did this for Halloween and it’s totally awesome so I’m making it my awesome find of the day:

The Chosen Pessimist

Progress on my A-Z so far.

Decided to try and make all the work type based, or heavily feature type in some way. Right now I’m really loving this type of designing.

Nearly finished with the key focus of the design so, planing on sticking “it’s not you, it’s” in between the “ME” just need to see how well it will work out I guess. Then just need to drop it into Illustrator and make it look smoother and blow it up to A3. =]

Here We Go Again…

Finally in second year, and having totally forgotten about the blog, I’ve not taken any pictures of the past two weeks workshops so that’s a fail. But moving on to a quick summary of things, only attended a few workshops so far within the sessions due to having to do some other stuff.
Over summer, made an A4 look book type of research book for the A-Z research, it’s pretty use full to me in generating ideas, don’t really think it makes sense to anyone else other than just being a book of just images.

For my work experience which is still not the whole 10 days needed, I got the chance to design an illustration for the inside back cover and this was the outcome:

Text reads: “There’s something about her long shady eyes, I’m all about her shade tonight” - Taken from the song Mascara by Deftones

pretty pleased with the final product, want to start doing more work in this style. Didn’t take any pictures, so I’ll go back in sometime next week and take some and see if any other things needed to be completed.

For the A-Z I’ve started to do some designs, some words are formulating really good ideas and some are just still giant question marks so I’m leaving them until last.
Hidden London - Don’t like this project as much to be honest, feel I could be using my time to do the other projects rather than doing this. But it’s still getting done but with not as much enthusiasm.

Some work I’m currently working on:

For Cliche- “It’s not you it’s me”

For Helvetica - A quote by Wolfgang Weingart.

Elective- AWESOME!!! At first I was a bit WTF did I even choose seeing as I was away with no Internet access for a week and a bit when the electives went up, but I chose the collaborative projects in graphic design, and it’s freaking awesome, the brief so far is to design a cover for the War of the worlds books in B format. Ideas just can’t stop coming since I’ve seen this film and love the radio version that was read by Orson Welles which made people think the planet was truly under invasion. So this is one thing I’m really looking forward to getting into.

Don’t know what else there is to update on other than I’m starting to look into my third year options and Reading University is my first open day I’m going to next week. =]

BTW this is my awesome find of the day:

“Don’t be evil”
Information typography at it’s best for me, I like being given information in an interesting way, this is similar to the work done by the Airside just constructed differently.
